A woman from Huddersfield is hoping to raise money for Leukaemia Research by taking part in a 10 kilometre race and hosting a fundraising evening.
The Evening Courier reports that Janette Martin plans to put her trainers on to complete the race in Manchester on May 18th before hosting an event at the Hove Edge Bowling Club, which will include a bingo game play session as well as a performance from a folk singer.
All the money will go to Leukaemia Research, a charity which researches blood cancers and similar disorders, which affect around 110,000 people.
Ms Martin was inspired to do something for the charity after losing her best friend, Donna McCormick, to leukaemia in January after a ten month battle with the disease.
"We had known each other for years. She lived a few doors down from me when we were young and we both went to Brighouse Girls' School," she said.
Ms Martin described Donna, who was 37 when she passed away, as "a wonderful person" who "is missed by so many".
