Older bingo game play enthusiasts in Southport, North Carolina are being helped to enjoy the activity by a batch of young volunteers, reports Star News.
Residents at the Dosher Memorial Hospital Nursing Center are helped to play bingo by a range of volunteers who help mark the numbers and provide any other assistance a player may need.
The volunteers are all aged between 11 and 17 and help out between June and August with a range of activities and field trips.
One of the residents, 90-year-old Ina Haywood is thankful for the help of the volunteers and how the activity benefits her in other ways.
She told Star News: "It makes me use my eyes more, and I have bad eyes. I think it helps them keep alert, anyway."
And the pressure is on the young helpers as bingo cash prizes to the tune of 50 cents are available to game play winners.
As well as helping a person's alertness, bingo can also help halve the rate at which the brain shrinks, according to an article in the Daily Mail.
