A children's playgroup that has found itself heavily in debt is giving people the chance to play bingo as a way of trying to improve its financial situation, reports the Gazette & Herald.
The Rainbow Playgroup based in Ryedale reportedly has debts of up to £14,000, with most of the money owed to the Inland Revenue.
Rising running costs, slacking attendances and reductions in outside funding have also contributed towards the problem.
However, a new committee has now formed at the group, which has more than 100 children on its books aged between two and 12, and various fundraising activities have been scheduled to clear the debt.
These include a bingo night and a coffee morning.
Also, a Christmas fair has been organised at the local Malton County Primary School, which will include activities such as a cake stall, a raffle, bric-a-brac and a jar tombola.
The Lancashire and Morecombe Citizen recently reported that Gala Bingo was supporting the Sue Ryder Care charity by encouraging individuals to take part in a five kiliometre Santa Dash along the Morecombe promenade.
