"The future of online bingo has never looked brighter", suggests the head of one of the leading online bingo operators.
Adam Knight, the marketing director of Spectra Games, believes that bingo and smoking have gone hand in hand for a long time and the smoking ban that has now been forced upon land bingo halls is one of the reasons for their weakening turn-outs.
He added that the growth in the number of gamblers having a bingo game online should not just be attributed to the smoking ban but also to increased TV advertisements, improved promotions and larger jackpots.
To show the growth in the industry Mr Knight revealed that there are now over four million people that play bingo online in the UK and Ireland alone, with another eight million outside of these areas.
Earlier this month, gaming firm Rank, which owns the land gambling venues Mecca Bingo and Grosvenor casinos announced it had failed to meet the same revenue figures it had reached at the same time the previous year and blamed this primarily on the smoking ban.
