Having the opportunity to participate in a session of online bingo is a mecca for a large number of middle-class women, according to a recent article in the Daily Telegraph.
Rowema Mason reports that thousands of middle-class women enjoy sitting at their computers for a game of bingo online after dropping the children off to school and completing the housework.
She states that one of the reasons why online bingo may have taken off is because many players can play without filling the bingo stereotype of a "chain-smoking, wing-wobbling blue rinser".
As online bingo really begins to take off, 888 chief executive Gigi Levy told the Telegraph that people should differentiate between bingo online and land bingo.
"But it's a mistake to link it to traditional bingo, because that's a completely different proposition. Our women are young, above average income and typical internet consumers. Land-based bingo is about elderly people, smoking and aggressive slot machines."
Although bingo is familiarly seen as a women's game, Swedish online bingo site Sveabingo.com has stated that more men are shifting their allegiances to bingo from other games such as poker.
