British housewives spend a large proportion of their leisure time on the internet, a survey has found.
The study, by marketing group TNS, asked over 27,000 people in 16 countries about their online habits.
Although China came the top overall, with 44 per cent of all leisure time spent on the internet, British housewives topped the chart with 47 per cent spending considerable time online.
It also found that a lot of people were now meeting others on the internet in real life, with three quarters of Germans admitting to doing so.
Arno Hummerston, the managing director of TNS, said: "What comes out in this survey is that we are actively engaging with people online, but we haven't lost the knack for conventional social contact."
One great way of spending time on the internet and meeting new people is to play online bingo, which offers the opportunity to chat while playing a game in the comfort of your own home.
