A weekly bingo game play evening set up to raise money for local charities and schools is failing in its quest due to two rent rises to its hall in the past year, reports the Burton Mail.
Ann Upton has been organising the sessions, at the Carver Road Community Centre in Horninglow, for the past ten years to benefit the community, but after the rent increases the money gained is only covering expenses.
The 51-year-old and the rest of the bingo night's organisers are also not best pleased with the committee that runs the hall and the committee's chairman Bob Johnston, for failing to carry out building repairs with the money.
When Mrs Upton approached the councillor she was told the increase was being used not to repair the hall's damaged heating system but to pay rising inflation costs.
Mrs Upton told the newspaper: "We run the bingo for the community and we feel like we are being pushed out and not getting any help at all."
Councillor Johnston added that the rent would not be put up again this year but without raising the rent again the money is not available to carry out any necessary repairs.
The Oxford Mail reported earlier this month that a local bingo facility raised £1,000 to put towards the building of a new cancer centre at the Churchill Hospital.
