Female bingo caller hopes for national recognition
20th June 2008
A female bingo caller from Sutton Coldfield is licking her lips at the opportunity of being crowned Gala Bingo Caller of the Year, reports the Birmingham Mail.
Tracey Claire is the only female finalist in the competition and she will go head-to-head with seven other male bingo callers from around the country at the showdown on June 29th.
The 44-year-old only became a bingo caller by accident three years ago when she filled in for a sick colleague, although she has been a bingo game play fan for more than 20 years.
Gala business development manager Bob Smith said the competition was not going to be all fun and games.
He said: "Our bingo judges make Simon Cowell look like a kitten.
"The finals take on a gladiatorial atmosphere with contenders from across the regions travelling to support their caller."
Ms Claire will be challenged in the final by Sheffield Bingo caller Roger Hartley for the chance to win a cash prize and an opportunity to audition for caller's position on the Gala TV channel.
