Residents of a Staffordshire town are working together to help send two local teenagers to Australia, the Burton Mail reports.
The Catholic Church organises World Youth Day every year in a bid to unite young people from across the world, with this year' event scheduled to be held in Sydney between July 15th and July 20th.
Burton teens Pippa Lockwood and Chris Smith have been invited to attend by Pope Benedict XVI and are now trying to find £3,000 to help fund their trip.
Together with other worshippers at St Mary and St Modwen's Roman Catholic Church, the teens have a held a range of fundraising events, including an Easter-themed bingo game play evening.
Sue Smith, a parishioner and fundraising organiser at the church, said they are making good progress and pointed out that "it is bringing together the younger people with the parish to develop a great community spirit".
Across the US, hundreds of Catholic churches use bingo to raise funds for schools and charitable activities in their parish.
