A bingo worker has been put in prison for eight months after using her position to steal £16,000, it has been revealed.
Emma Meechan, of Banbary, Oxford, took advantage of a computer glitch to pilfer £16,178 over 13 months as a cashier at the Gala Bingo where she worked.
She stole the money from July 2006 to August 2007 after discovering that some of the hall's Buzzcards plastic cards that players can use to load money and store their winnings had been wrongly credited with £167,000 because of the error.
The Banbary Guardian reports that Meechan was in cahoots with Colin Ricalton, manager of the hall at the time. He had also stolen £23,000 and was sentenced at an earlier hearing, after the pair were caught following an anonymous tip off.
According to the paper, Jonathan Stone, prosecutor, said: "Quite literally, huge discrepancies were discovered. It was a computer glitch which the employee took advantage of, not something she engineered."
Meanwhile, a man from Birmingham, who claimed more than £50,000 in benefits, was jailed for a year after he failed to declare that his wife had won £60,000 on a bingo site.
