Seventeen bingo jobs are set to be lost as a bingo game play facility in Birmingham is set to close next week, according to the Birmingham Post.
Bingo players are set to lose the chance to play bingo at Gala club in Great Barr as of June 23rd.
The club owner Gala Coral has blamed external factors for the closure, with the smoking ban, double taxation levied on the activity and the reduction of bingo jackpot gaming machines all playing their role.
Steve Baldwin, communications manager at the Bingo Association, told the newspaper: "The industry has seen a significant number of clubs close 37 in 2007 and more have closed this year.
"Jobs are being lost and communities are losing a key social service."
However, on the flip side of the coin, a bingo club in Malvern has been saved from demolition by a district councillor.
The Malvern Gazette reported that councillor Mike Soley got in touch with the company in charge of the demolition and it agreed that bingo game play sessions could continue at the venue.
