At a time when many traditional bingo playing facilities are having to close, partly due to the rise of online bingo and smoking ban, one hall in Liverpool is set to re-open, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Six months ago, the Peoples Hall social club in Aigburth Vale closed down, but on New Year's Eve it is set to open its doors again.
Money problems were blamed for the original closure, but now the club's 400 former members may wish to return to play bingo, snooker and compete in other activities.
Veteran businesswoman Pat Houston has taken on the running of the club alongside her two sons.
She told the paper: "I want to keep it as a social club that is full of fun and happiness. People are thrilled that it's back. I'd love as many people as possible to come along on New Years Eve to celebrate."
One of the venue's biggest claims to fame is that, as a teenager, snooker star John Parrott won his first trophy at the hall's annual competition.
Meanwhile, former bingo hall caller of the year finalist Jason Owen, who is four feet tall, was recently announced as the new mascot for an online bingo company.
