Bingo players threatened with eviction for smuggling
21st July 2008
Elderly bingo players who begun smuggling their own food and drink into bingo game play sessions because the items inside the facility were too expensive, have been threatened with eviction, reports The Gazette.
The OAPs were lining their pockets with their favourite treats before entering the Columbine Centre in Walton, Essex, but Frinton and Walton Town Council has warned the club that bingo will be barred from the facility if players continue bringing their own food.
Instead the players will relocate to the town's Royal Albion pub to continue their bingo playing fun.
One of the club's members Kathleen Gilbert told the newspaper: "It is just a case of people taking a packet of biscuits or a few cakes and handing them round.
"No-one likes to be threatened with eviction, especially old age pensioners. We ourselves are all looking forward to our new future bingo club."
As well as being a popular game with pensioners, bingo is now attracting more male players, with Swedish online bingo site Sveabingo.com stating that 40 per cent of its members are men.
