Land bingo hall operators will be crossing their figures as the government is set to make an announcement tomorrow (Wednesday) on the number of slot machines that a bingo club can hold.
Relaxing the limits on the number of slot machines a land bingo hall can house will be a massive boost to the industry, which has suffered in recent time thanks mainly to the smoking ban.
An industry source told Reuters that the bingo industry would prefer to set the rule for the number of slot machines to be based on the size of the hall.
The source also told Reuters: "If there was a simply a set number of machines everyone could have it would be open to abuse. People would say that they were opening a bingo club but really it would just be a slots hall."
And a bingo game play facility in Malvern was already celebrating after a local councillor stepped in to prevent the hall from being knocked down and rebuilt as a retirement village, according to the Malvern Gazette.
