Bingo hall 'will not re-open' |

People in Hucknall, Nottinghamshire, may be playing more on line bingo soon, following reports that a proposed £1 million redevelopment of the local bingo hall has been cancelled.
Hucknall's Byron Bingo Club, which is leased by Stylus Sports under the name DeLuxe Bingo, was to be upgraded this year and merged with the former Byron Cinema, part of the same building.
However, with Stylus now pulling out of the project, the Hucknall Dispatch reports that the Bingo Hall may have trouble securing the funding to undergo a revamp.
Tharmalingam Sritharan, owner of the club, told the paper that Stylus had expected too much from the club, especially in the wake of a national downturn in bingo player numbers since the introduction of the public smoking ban in the UK.
But he said that he is planning a publicity drive in September in an attempt to reverse the club's fortunes and fund a smaller scale refurbishment to the one planned by Stylus.
According to the Bingo Association, which lobbies on behalf of the bingo industry, a growing number of punters could start to play bingo online as internet-enabled mobile devices become more common.
