A quick journey through the history of your favorite pastime… online Bingo!
Can you remember the first time that you ever played online Bingo? Five, ten, twenty years ago - maybe more? (gulp) Well, you’d have to go back far further than that to go back to the game’s origins.
Bingo has been around for ages…
We can thank the Italians for the world’s favourite number game. It traces back to 1530, to a lottery called "Lo Giuoco del Lotto D'Italia" which is still played every Saturday in Italy. From there the game was introduced to France in the late 1770s, where it was called "Le Lotto", a game played among wealthy Frenchmen. Ooh la la.
The Germans played a version of the game in the 1800s. Interestingly though, the Germans didn’t play bingo for fun; oh no… they used it as a child's game to help students learn math, spelling and history. How very… erm, German of them!
Bingo used be be called what?
In the United States, Bingo was originally called "beano". It was a country fair game where a dealer would select numbered discs from a box and players would mark their cards with beans. They called out "beano" if they won.
The internet bingo revolution
More recently, online Bingo has taken
off in a big way; and we mean BIG. There are now more than three million
people in the UK that regularly play Bingo (at least 2–3 times per
week).
Although the game has changed in many ways, it's still deeply rooted in its basic origins; and that's the beauty of it. Online Bingo can be played by anyone, any age. The rules are simple and it's easy to learn.
With the addition of the legendary Bingo Jackpot, and the introduction of chat games and other in play games (have you tried Bingo Bets or Mini Slots yet), online Bingo can only get more popular. In fact, bingo is one of the biggest growth areas online.
That's the end of our little journey through online Bingo's colourful past. Who knows what the future will hold for our favorite numbers game?
